STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

When I saw the “Write Your Book“ program, I was excited. I felt it was perfect for me. I wanted accountability with feedback and inspiration. This course was more than I could have asked for. Wonderful support, guidance, and knowledge of the publishing world. I learned so much. The groups are small. The feeling intimate. The material enlightening. Maria is knowledgeable, experienced and gracious with her time and expertise on all levels of the writing world. The program gave me just what I was looking for. I feel blessed to have found the perfect match for my writer’s needs. I can’t wait for round two!

I did the Write Your Book program and haven't looked back. The structure of the course offered just the right amount of momentum to keep me on track but not so much that I felt overwhelmed. Ria covered relevant topics from writing, editing and publishing a book while holding a creative space and offering supportive feedback. I learned how to stay on task, developed a writing schedule that works well for me and how to transfer my work to an online platform that created structure.

Beyond the how too's of the process I also found a new internal path that felt kind and more supportive. I have a tendency to be hard on myself which gets in the way of my creative flow. Ria reminded me that life is an unfolding process and there is no right way to do it.

Maria is a kind, insightful and generous guide. Her knowledge as an editor, publisher and as a writer goes way beyond the intellectual aspects of this field. It encompasses and honours the spiritual nature of any creative expression. I had forgotten the pleasure of allowing my deep, authentic voice to be expressed freely. Maria led me back to that by creating a space in which I felt safe, heard, and seen. Her feedback was free of judgment and on point. The thought of writing a book had crossed my mind in the past but I had never taken it seriously. During Maria’s program, I saw my potential as a published author for the first time. I feel excited and inspired.

Today I call myself a published author thanks to Maria Iliffe-Wood and her press service. She edited my work with the hands of a skilled surgeon. Her editing allowed my work, my words and my voice to remain mine. Authentic. My journey from writer to published author is by no small measure thanks to Maria Iliffe-Wood.

Maria Iliffe-Wood’s empathy and honest voice is sensitive and it showed in the editing process. She was careful to point out sentences that she loved while she spotted roadblocks in the work. She has a rich background in humanities which has fostered inspiration in so many lives. She is well schooled in the grammatical skills necessary to guide a writer. Her lack of ego involvement in her communications take the writer straight into their genuine voice. She made the whole process seem effortless with no intimidation and was prompt to return my pieces. I recommend her for her capability as well as the ease and kindness that she exercised.

Maria gently encouraged me to go deeper in my writing. She then waved her editing magic wand over my story about love, helping craft it into a published piece of work. (From the Heart a compilation by Nicola Drew)

Maria touches the hearts of people with her writing. Her personality, her insight, gentleness, humour and observations on human nature are precise and honest. Each piece holds a wealth of wisdom, for the reader to observe, digest and savour.

To take two words and turn them into a story is a rare talent. For those stories to be inspiring, imagination provoking, eye opening and sensitively challenging makes them an essential for flourishing through lockdown. To have the stories available whenever needed; wondrous.

I loved reading Maria’s Daily Yarns. A myriad of emotions unleashed with ‘what, you too!’, to learning more about the author, being privileged to have that window open into her views, memories, feelings and emotions, all transcribed with such great penmanship.

I came to Maria's program with one book written, one book started, and one percolating in my mind. I wasn't sure where to focus my attention and therefore wasn't making progress on any of them.

With Maria's thoughtful, patient guidance I am not only focused on what to work on, I also have a vision that is larger, more authentic, and inspiring than where I started.

Maria’s personal and professional nature makes this programme, a safe first exploration into our own perception of our writing. Her approach is both welcoming and challenging simultaneously at times. She brought the group together well and I really felt she was with me on the journey. Maria went above and beyond to support me with my work.

I loved Maria's course, it was so helpful for me to see a piece of my work edited. I have much more clarity around what to look out for and see how relatively small changes can make a huge difference in finding my voice.
